Frequently asked questions
About the app, the gym directory, and how Certified gyms work.
General
A workout tracking app built for serious strength training. The difference: Altor knows what equipment your gym has. Your training plans resolve to the actual machines on the floor — not a generic exercise list. Free for members.
Those are logbooks — you record sets and the app stores them. Altor is gym-aware. It knows what's at your specific gym and builds your plan around it. The progression engine is also deterministic: every weight suggestion has an explicit reason you can trace. No black box, no "trust the algorithm."
Yes — the core tracker is free forever: logging, plans, history, and offline sessions. Altor Premium (optional subscription) unlocks adaptive progression, Training Health, and equipment-aware exercise pools.
Yes. You can log sessions, follow plans, and track progression at any gym. The equipment-aware features — plan resolution, automatic substitutions — activate fully once your gym is Certified. You can request certification for your gym on the gym's directory page.
The app works without internet. You can run a full session — plan loading, set logging, feedback, progression — with no signal on the gym floor. Data syncs when you're back online.
Altor Certified
It will mean someone from Altor visited that gym in person, mapped every piece of equipment, and verified the inventory. It's not crowdsourced or self-reported. Certified gyms will show a full equipment profile on the directory. When you train there, your plan will know exactly what's available.
Reach out to us at support@altorstrength.com. We'll arrange a visit — usually 1–2 hours, and you don't need to be present. No cost to the gym.
Yes. Find the gym on the directory and tap "Request Certification." We'll reach out to the gym directly. The more members request it, the faster we prioritise it.
Once we've booked the visit, the gym is typically live within a few days. We handle the mapping, the profile, and the publishing.
Training & Progression
It uses a credit-based system. After each session, your feedback (how hard it felt, pump levels, recovery) accumulates credits. Weight increases only happen once enough credits are banked across multiple sessions — not based on a single good set. Conservative by design.
Same inputs, same output. Every time. The engine is not a neural network or a black box — it's a set of explicit rules. Given your feedback and credit history, it returns exactly one result. You can always see why it suggests what it does.
Yes. Environment is broader than gym. You can train anywhere and configure what equipment you have available. The intelligence doesn't change. Only the exercise selection does.
Privacy
You do. Training data lives on your device first. No ads, no selling data to third parties, no behaviour tracking. Full export and deletion on request. EU-hosted infrastructure.
Yes. EU hosting, data processing agreements available for gyms, and a privacy-first architecture throughout. Full detail on the compliance page.
