What stays free in Altor (and what won't)

A lot of “free” workout apps aren’t, really. The free tier is a crippled demo — three routines, a month of history, then a wall. We don’t want to play that game, so here’s the honest breakdown of what’s free in Altor, what isn’t, and what’s true right now versus later.

Right now: free for everyone

While we map the gyms of Zürich, Altor is free for everyone. No paywall, no premium gate. We’d rather get the product into the hands of serious lifters and certified gyms than meter it during a land-grab. Simple as that.

That won’t last forever — but when it changes, you’ll hear about it well in advance. No silent flip.

Always free: the tracker

Logging your training is — and will stay — free, forever. That means:

  • Unlimited session logging
  • Plan creation and management
  • Full training history, no time limit
  • Offline-first — works without a connection
  • Custom exercises
  • No ads, ever

This isn’t a trial. A complete workout tracker is the free product. If all you ever want is a fast, clean log that knows your gym, you never have to pay.

Later: the engine becomes Premium

The part that takes real work to build — and real cost to run — is the adaptive progression engine: credit-gated progression, multi-dimensional feedback, explainability, and performance analytics. Today it’s free along with everything else. Once we’ve mapped Zürich, it becomes a paid tier (target around CHF 10/month).

When that happens, the tracker stays free; the intelligence is what you’d pay for. That’s the line: pay for intelligence, never for logging.

What we won’t do

  • No ads. Not on any consumer surface. It’s a deliberate choice, not a feature we’ll sell back to you.
  • No selling your data. Your training history is yours — you can export it and take it with you if you leave.
  • No bait-and-switch. We’re telling you the pricing shape now, before you’ve invested months of history, precisely so it’s never a surprise.

You can see the current breakdown any time on the pricing page.
